Brilliant Corners joined partners from The People Concern and Los Angeles County to celebrate the Grand Opening of Willow Tree, a new permanent supportive housing development in Compton. A former motel that was previously used as interim housing, this site will now provide 100 units of permanent supportive housing. Willow Tree is developed by The People Concern, who will also serve as site operator.

The grand opening ceremony featured speeches from Compton Mayor Emma Sharif, Hafsa Kaka from the Office of Governor Gavin Newsom, Craig Shields from the California Department of Housing & Community Development, Sarah Mahin, Director of Housing for Health at Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, and John Maceri, CEO of the People Concern. The event also featured a moving testimony of a Willow Tree resident. Representatives from the office of Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell, Senator Adam Schiff, Senator Laura Richardson, and Assemblymember Mike

Gipson presented certificates to our partner The People Concern.

Brilliant Corners was proud to support the Willow Tree project through its Capital Improvement Intermediary Program (CIIP), an initiative to expand housing options paired with supportive services for people who have experienced or are at risk of experiencing homelessness Los Angeles County. Brilliant Corners’ CIIP team provided project management and fiscal management to support Willow Tree’s construction process.

Willow Tree has now been renovated to provide kitchenettes in each room, with 10% of the units converted to be ADA accessible, along with new, energy-efficient HVAC systems and other interior and exterior site improvements. The site also includes a new community room and dedicated office space for onsite services.
