Brilliant Corners is thrilled to announce the award of a $75,000 grant from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Community Fund to support our housing and supportive services in San Mateo County.

Operating in San Mateo County since 2004, Brilliant Corners currently provides supportive housing to over 350 people in a variety of individualized settings. Founded to address the housing crisis facing people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), Brilliant Corners began developing Independent Living and Residential Care Homes for people with I/DD as a much-needed alternative to the clinical and institutional settings that historically housed this population. These homes are customized, state-of-the-art, community-based settings that are available for occupancy for as long as residents desire—all characteristics that drive housing retention. Since 2014, Brilliant Corners has also partnered with the Health Plan of San Mateo (HPSM) to provide Community Supports (CS) in the form of Housing Navigation and Tenancy Support services for HPSM members experiencing or at risk of homelessness. We serve the largest number of CS clients in San Mateo County and are among the first CS providers in California to subcontract through California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM), a Medi-Cal program launched in January 2022 that holds promise for expanding housing services to the state’s most vulnerable residents.

This $75,000 Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Community Fund grant will allow Brilliant Corners to further develop and improve the housing and services delivered to people who have the highest acuity needs. We imagine communities where people live as independently as possible in safe, affordable, and supportive housing, while affirming Brilliant Corners’ vision that no one experiences unnecessary hospitalization, justice involvement, or homelessness.
