Zoila fell into homelessness at the beginning of the pandemic when the hotel she worked at closed and she could no longer afford rent. She was living in an RV for two years before she was connected to Brilliant Corners. Zoila’s Housing Coordinator, Flor Maya, worked closely with her to navigate the move-in process and found her an apartment that met her accessibility needs. Zoila shared that she considers Flor part of her family, and knows she can reach out at any time, knowing Flor is a strong advocate and will be there for her. Says Zoila, “Securing a home is a priority that should be available for everyone.” She is grateful for the city and nonprofit support and everyone who helped her along the way in her housing journey. Today, actively working, Zoila says, “I consider my Brilliant Corners housing coordinator family and part of my close circle. I know I can reach out anytime for support and advocacy.”
