Reentry matters because everyone deserves a second chance and a place to call home. For Second Chance Month, we highlight the inspiring story of Brilliant Corners participant Jenna, and how housing and supportive services made an impact in her life.
Jenna experienced significant challenges in her life. Like many justice-impacted people, Jenna was stuck in a cycle of incarceration and homelessness. Jenna shared that the driving reason for that instability was that she lacked stable housing.
When she connected with Brilliant Corners, the Breaking Barriers team helped her find an apartment and assisted her with the move-in process and ongoing wrap-around support. “Whether it was for employment, education, food, and resources — anything that I didn’t have I could make that phone call and they would help me figure it out,” Jenna says.
With a place to call her home, Jenna could finally focus on her education. Jenna recently graduated with honors, earning two associates degrees. Jenna shares that “It took a whole army of people pouring into me to allow me to see my potential.”
